Clindamycin B is a semi-synthetic derivative of lincomycin, a natural antibiotic produced by Streptomyces lincolnensis. It belongs to the lincosamide class of antibiotics and is an effective treatment for a wide range of bacterial infections. Clindamycin B works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, ultimately leading to cell death.
Clindamycin B is commonly used to treat infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and anaerobic bacteria. It is also effective against some protozoal infections, such as Toxoplasma gondii.
