Etodolac methyl ester

Etodolac methyl ester is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that is commonly used for the treatment of pain, inflammation, and fever. It is a derivative of etodolac, which is a well-known NSAID that is widely used for the treatment of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Etodolac methyl ester is often preferred over etodolac due to its better solubility and faster onset of action. Chemically, etodolac methyl ester is a white to off-white crystalline powder that is soluble in water, ethanol, and methanol. Its chemical formula is C13H16ClNO3 and it has a molecular weight of 273.72 g/mol. The drug is mainly metabolized in the liver and excreted through the kidneys. Etodolac methyl ester works by inhibiting the activity of cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, which are responsible for the production of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins. By blocking the production of these mediators, the drug reduces inflammation, pain, and fever. The recommended dosage of etodolac methyl ester varies depending on the condition being treated and the patient's age and weight. However, the usual adult dose is 200-400 mg taken orally twice a day, with or without food. The drug is generally well-tolerated, but like all NSAIDs, it may cause side effects such as gastrointestinal upset, headache, dizziness, and skin rash.
