Category Metabolites
CAS 52591-22-7
Molecular Weight 98.05
Molecular Formula C4H2O3
Synonyms: 3-hydroxycyclobut-3-ene-1,2-dione
Application Notes: Moniliformin is a potent, water-soluble mycotoxin produced by several species of Fusarium. Comparative toxicity studies of moniliformin in chicken cell lines revealed no toxicity to chondrocytes and macrophages, but toxicity to splenocytes, cardiac and skeletal myocytes. Moniliformin selectively inhibits mitochondrial oxidization of pyruvate and a-ketoglutarate, however the mode of action is not yet completely resolved.Comparative cytotoxicity of fumonisin B1 and moniliformin in chicken primary cell cultures.
